NEW YORK, Aug 5 (Reuters) – The U.S. Securities and Change Fee mentioned ‌on Wednesday it’s establishing a ‌specialised enforcement unit centered on accounting and monetary reporting instances.

• Timothy Zimmerman, who joined the SEC’s Division of Enforcement in Might 2026 as a senior advisor, will lead the ‌unit.

• “This new unit – which expands on the division’s present and historic efforts to crack down on unhealthy actors within the accounting and auditing career – will probably be vital in our efforts to (pursue) monetary reporting fraud, as ‌effectively as accounting and auditor misconduct extra usually,” SEC Enforcement Director David Woodcock mentioned in a press release.

• The unit will pursue accounting and monetary reporting fraud instances, ‌in addition to basic misconduct in accounting and auditing areas.

• It will probably be staffed by attorneys ‌and accountants with specialised expertise associated to monetary reporting and accounting.

• The SEC’s assertion confirms reporting from Reuters and different ‌information shops that the company was forming the unit.
