It was not instantly clear whether or not the town’s lawsuit could be separate from or added to the earlier swimsuit the administration of NYC Mayor Eric Adams filed over the clawback of $80 million earlier in 2025.

“Like their earlier actions clawing again appropriated funds, these steps are illegal, and the New York Metropolis Regulation Division is at the moment figuring out the most effective authorized recourse to take to make sure that this cash stays in New York Metropolis, the place it was allotted and belongs,” Adams stated in an announcement.

“As I’ve repeatedly stated, New York Metropolis didn’t create this disaster — it was brought on by many years of federal inaction and failure to cross complete immigration reform,” he continued. “But, New Yorkers — and residents of different main cities throughout the nation — have been compelled to pay the value.”

In February, the town filed a lawsuit difficult the Trump administration’s seizing of greater than $80 million.
