In our “Why I’m Working” sequence, Boston Marathon athletes share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston.

I’m honored to be working the 2025 Boston Marathon as a part of the Xtra Mile workforce to help Particular Olympics Massachusetts, a corporation that holds a really particular place in my coronary heart. Rising up with my uncle Steve, who had Down syndrome, I witnessed the transformative energy of sports activities in fostering pleasure, confidence and neighborhood for people with mental disabilities. Impressed by his ardour, I turned concerned in native inclusive sports activities packages in elementary college and have carried this dedication with me into my work with Particular Olympics Massachusetts for the previous six years.

Over the previous six years, I’ve had the privilege of working with the Metrowest Flyers in Framingham, teaching bowling, cornhole and observe and area practices seasonally. At Boston School, I’ve continued this work by becoming a member of BC Particular Olympics, the place I serve on the chief board, coordinating weekly practices and organizing our annual Polar Plunge fundraiser. These experiences have been transformative, not just for the athletes however for me as nicely.

The influence of Particular Olympics Massachusetts can’t be overstated. The enjoyment, confidence and camaraderie it fosters in athletes by practices, tournaments and community-building are invaluable. For me, it has been a constant pocket of pleasure throughout my weeks, offering a real sense of objective and connection. This has turn into an intrinsic a part of who I’m. This unbelievable group’s unwavering efforts to empower athletes and create an inclusive neighborhood depend upon the generosity of supporters such as you. Collectively, we will make a significant distinction within the lives of those athletes and their households.
