Skoda-Volkswagen and Mercedes Benz will announce funding plans to fabricate electrical automobiles in India, stated govt sources. The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) will give sops below the Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Electrical Passenger Automobiles in India (SPMEPCI), they stated.

In the meantime, Union Heavy Industries Minister HD Kumaraswamy had stated on Monday that Mercedes Benz, Skoda-Volkswagen, Hyundai and Kia have proven curiosity in manufacturing electrical automobiles in India below the SPMEPCI. He added that Tesla was not . 

“Tesla, we aren’t truly anticipating curiosity from them…They aren’t serious about manufacturing in India,” Kumaraswamy stated.

The scheme was notified on March 15 however the tips had been issued on Monday. 

The window to use below the scheme will open in a few weeks, officers stated. To encourage world producers to speculate, accredited candidates might be allowed to import Fully Constructed-up Models (CBUs) of electrical four-wheelers with a minimal CIF worth of $35,000 at a lowered customs responsibility of 15 per cent for 5 years from the date of software approval. 

Candidates should make a minimal funding of Rs 4,150 crore as per the scheme’s provisions.

The applying window, via the Discover Inviting Purposes, will stay open for 120 days or extra. The Ministry of Heavy Industries reserves the best to open the appliance window as wanted till March 15, 2026.
