Wild GM Invoice Guerin talks Hughes negotiations: ‘I have never actually determined’
It seems that Invoice Guerin’s optimism concerning a brand new contract for Quinn Hughes is waning.
“To be fairly sincere, I had not talked to them about this in a very long time,” Guerin stated of contract talks with Hughes and his agent, Pat Brisson. “There’s nothing to speak about proper now. What am I going to do (say) ‘Please, please, please’?”
It appeared to be a departure from Guerin’s earlier tone on the matter when he stated that there was “no stress” and “communication is nice.”
Hughes is within the closing yr of his present take care of a $7.85 million wage cap hit. The 27-year-old blue-liner turned eligible to signal a brand new contract with the Wild on July 1, however negotiations appear to have stalled since.
The Wild have began the season red-hot with a 9-3-2 report. Nonetheless, the prospect of letting a participant of Hughes’ calibre stroll for nothing on the finish of the season is troublesome to grapple with.
“I have never actually determined, sooner or later in time I am going to must attempt to determine issues out and see what’s finest for the crew,” Guerin stated. “I do know one factor’s for certain: having Quinn on our crew is what’s finest for the crew.
“I’ll be utterly sincere with you, I don’t know. I do not know what’s going to occur. I do not know what I’m going to do. There’s no date. What we’re doing proper now’s specializing in our crew and attempting to win hockey video games. That’s actually it. I believe some individuals wish to make this extra difficult than it truly is — being the media. And it’s not that difficult.”
The previous Norris Trophy winner has 18 factors (three objectives, 15 assists) in 14 video games this season and has scored over 70 factors for 4 straight seasons.
He additionally seems amenable to signing in Minnesota.
“I am excited proper now. My two ft are planted in Minnesota and, you understand, one thing may occur quickly. I am probably not too certain,” Hughes instructed reporters Saturday, concerning contract talks. “I am actually having fun with taking part in right here.”
Nevertheless, the potential of becoming a member of his youthful brothers, Jack and Luke, with the New Jersey Devils may additionally probably issue into Hughes’ determination.
