$50K reward supplied in lethal South LA hit-and-run – NBC Los Angeles

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass Thursday night introduced a $50,000 reward for data resulting in the identification of the driving force who struck and killed an 83-year-old pedestrian in South Los Angeles and fled the scene.

Akil Saud Batani-Khalfani, of Los Angeles, was strolling eastbound on Central Avenue close to 69th Avenue, outdoors a marked crosswalk, when he was struck by a darkish blue, four-door sedan touring southbound about 8:43 p.m. Sept. 30, based on the Los Angeles Police Division.

The driving force fled with out stopping to render support or establish themselves, police stated.

Los Angeles Hearth Division paramedics responded and pronounced Batanikhalfani lifeless on the scene.

Batani-Khalfani, often known as Chook, was a group chief, historian and creator.

“Nobody deserves to die on this method and Chook’s tragic dying is heartbreaking,” Bass stated. “He was an elder, a father of 15, a grandfather of 43, group advocate and group historian who devoted his life to our younger individuals. His loss is felt by his household and the many individuals whose lives he touched. My coronary heart is along with his kids, grandchildren and family members as they mourn this devastating loss.

“Each Angeleno deserves to be secure on our streets. We’re working to find out what extra security measures could also be wanted close to Central Avenue and 69th Avenue and can proceed taking motion to guard lives and stop one other household from experiencing this type of tragedy.”

The LAPD’s Central Visitors Division is investigating the collision and looking for details about the driving force and car.

The reward is out there for data resulting in the identification, apprehension and conviction of the driving force, or decision by a civil compromise, underneath the town’s Hit-and-Run Reward Program.
