Cudahy vice mayor delivers assertion weeks after feedback about ICE – NBC Los Angeles

Cudahy Vice Mayor Cynthia Gonzalez, who garnered nationwide consideration for her feedback relating to immigration raids and Los Angeles gangs, addressed the controversy on Tuesday, weeks later.
In a metropolis council assembly held Tuesday night, Gonzalez, who’s accused of calling on gang members to defend their neighborhoods from federal brokers in a now-deleted social media video, affirmed her freedom of speech and cleared the air.
Partially, Gonzalez mentioned the next throughout the assembly:
“I simply need to take a while to deal with the brief satirical TikTok video I made not too long ago that drew nationwide headlines and public criticism. To be clear, I created this video in my private time and on my private web page. The message was not about violence; It was about common individuals – us, Martin had joined me in considered one of these – claiming possession of our streets in a time of nice misery and asking others, who I discussed in my video, in organizing and protesting in opposition to the hurt and violence being inflicted on our neighborhood. I need to apologize to metropolis workers, members of the council and my neighborhood that my video took consideration away from the ache our communities are experiencing and introduced pointless consideration to our metropolis.”
Final month, the vice mayor drew criticism after she mentioned she wished to know “the place all of the cholos are at in Los Angeles” amid federal raids.
“The place’s the management at? Since you guys are all about territory and that is 18th Road, that is Florencia,” Gonzalez mentioned within the controversial video. “You guys tag every thing up, claiming hood and now that your hood’s being invaded by the largest gang there may be, there ain’t a peep out of you.”
The video prompted the Division of Homeland Safety to name the feedback “despicable.” The LA Protecting League and union for the Los Angeles Police Division referred to as for her resignation.
